I think Midgard might remain Kratos's home, but maybe something could happen that leads him on an adventure to another realm, then the next story arc would end with him returning to Midgard until the next adventure. Regardless of what happens, I also feel like a prequel story about Kratos leaving Greece and arriving in the Nine Realms is a good possibility.

So, the reason mentioned at 11:47 is that because Ranni was not just a demigod, but an Empyrean, she belonged to the Greater Will in a way her siblings and cousins did not. It owned her very flesh, and as such that flesh could not move against it. She needed to escape her body to free herself from its influence, especially if she ever intended to act against the Greater Will’s interests. As for the cursemark vs the rune of death, from what I can tell these were not carved deliberately into her and Godwyn’s bodies, but rather formed themselves in the wake of their deaths. Perhaps as a result of them dying despite the rune of death still not being in the Elden Ring? The phrase “cursemark” implies a negative connotation that the rune of death/destined death doesn’t seem to have. The reason they each only have half the cursemark is because each of them only half-died, as a result of being slain at the same time. Ranni’s body died while her soul lived on in a new form - the doll body - and Godwyn’s soul died, while his body remained alive and began its horrifying transformation. The fact that the Black Knives hunt Ranni and her forces - succeeding in their murder of Iji - suggests to me that this was not what they intended. I have long maintained that the plot to kill Godwyn was not Ranni’s, that it was an existing plan by other forces which she entered into because she saw in it an opportunity for escape. It is my opinion that the Black Knives meant to wholly kill Godwyn, but that Ranni co-opted their plan for her own ends, to escape the influence of the Greater Will and her Two Fingers by fleeing her Empyrean flesh. As to why this form of plot was necessary, perhaps the fragment of the death rune she stole for the Knives was only powerful enough to slay one demigod, and thus killing two simultaneously caused their half-deaths. This is mere speculation though, as I’m not aware of any concrete confirmations to that end. As for who was behind the Black Knives plot, those involved were said to be of the Numen - another people from beyond the Lands Between and in fact the people from which Marika herself hails. I don’t think this indicates Marika’s involvement, honestly - there’s no real suggestion of that, as far as I know. The fact that they her kin is no coincidence, though. Perhaps this was an act of revenge? It is unclear. As a result, I think this is the vague chain of causality: The Black Knives, whatever their reason, plot to kill Godwyn. Seeking escape from the Two Fingers and seeing her opportunity here, Ranni enters this plot, stealing a fragment of the death rune for them while also plotting to subvert their plan to free herself from the Two Fingers and Greater Will. In response to Godwyn’s assassination - perhaps in grief, perhaps anger, perhaps something else entirely - Marika shatters the Elden Ring. Godwyn’s body is buried beneath the Erdtree, but his now soulless form begins to transform, grow, and through the Erdtree’s roots, spread its horrifying metamorphosis across the lands between. Meanwhile, the demigods all grab fragments of the Elden Ring and - perhaps motivated by Marika’s command, perhaps not, it’s unclear where in the timeline that particular echo is from - go to war for dominion over the Lands Between.

This video no longer really tracks now that we know from the DLC that the Two Fingers were acting of their own volition without themselves being aware of the Greater Will's desires from the start.

I honestly wholeheartedly disagree with a lot you said about iguazu. He's not the only one that could have been used, since allmind could make any other pilot stay alive, and he's definitely not forgettable nor does he not show up a ton. You fight him the most out of anyone and out of all the secondary characters he's probably mentioned the most. He most definitely could be just as great as raven, there isn't anything holding him back from being just as good as us(besides not having a coral partner, and his insecurity), and we see that in the final battle when he quiets everyone else but the two of us. I'd also say that the way his lines are delivered he seems less like a whiner and more like a snarky, sarcastic, insecure, and also generally hate filled guy. Back to allmind, his hate is what makes him the perfect person to eliminate us, the final obstacle. Who better to take on the most powerful and motivated person in the game than someone who's entire existence revolves around hate of this person? Iguazu knows that this alliance isn't really the best thing for him, he isn't being manipulated, he's just going along with it because they both want you out of the picture. As further evidence for this, allmind's voice is melded with iguazu during the cutscene, but during the fight we watch him talk back to allmind the entire time and just generally not care at all.

Interestingly, the story whose pantheon is most analogous to Elden Ring’s - at least by this interpretation - is, in fact, Destiny. The Gods of Destiny’s universe - and that’s capital G Gods because there are lesser deities - the ones responsible for the creation of existence, are in essence the powers the player wields - the Light and Dark themselves. They are not merely powers, but are ontological principles with intelligence and will - sentient laws of nature, as if the principles of mathematics could think and act. On the one hand, the Light is the growth and preservation of complexity - A Gardener - while the Dark is reduction and refinement into a singular perfect form, a final shape - a Winnower. These two are locked in an eternal struggle for victory over the other. The story, however, is often about how true harmony can only exist when these forces exist alongside each other. Much like Elden Ring, when a single one of these greater forces is given total dominion, existence itself is harmed. For the universe to be balanced and harmonious, they must exist in eternal tension with each other. These forces, however, cannot truly acknowledge the importance of this duality. They must ever strive for the dominance of their principle, because they ARE that principle. The Winnower described this contradiction and compares itself to mortals in this passage of the “Unveiling” lore text: “Neither the gardener nor I know for certain that we're eternally, universally right. But we can be nothing except what we are. You have a choice.” Much like this, I think the Outer Gods of Elden Ring are fated to forever war for control of the mortal realm, despite the fact that the dominance of any of these fundamental principles would inevitably be disastrous for the world they would rule. Perhaps we could convince the Outer Gods that their supreme reign would only bring catastrophe. Perhaps they even already know - but they can be nothing except what they are. This is why the only true “Good” ending is the Age of Stars, as it involves usurping the Greater Will, banishing it and then departing ourselves in self-imposed exile, leaving the Lands Between without a ruling deity, and allowing these elemental forces to exist as they do naturally, in constant tension, and allowing mortals to make their own fates for perhaps the very first time. Anyways, just wanted to yap about some interesting parallels between two of my favorite fictional worlds. Awesome videos by the way, love your work!

there are some theories i subscribe to at the moment. marika is a blood thirsty monster who have alligned agenda with the greater will, ruling the land. marika broke the ring, because greater will might be leaving her, since her empire and heirs are kinda shitty. she summoned the many tarnished because if she cant have power, no one should own it. Tarnished is a violent force even Marika cant keep them.

It all fun and games until you realize the greater will left long before the golden order. And considering how the pots are made in the DLC and that Omen did it in order to reach the gods. I do not want to know what horrific sacrifices and rituals the Nox engaged in to make life from liquid metal. So far the Greater Will seems to be the most well mannered being in the lands between.

I actually wish updated channels would revitalize the lore of dark souls because I'm trying to get into it, but there aren't enough in depth lore videos about it the way we have for Elden ring or bloodborne

When Melina recites Marika’s “echo” to her children, it likely means that although you can become what you desire, you must understand there are consequences for your actions. This is evident throughout Elden Ring, as all the demigods possess their own Great Runes from the Elden Ring and made themselves larger than life as Lords with their own factions. However, since the Tarnished have returned, the demigods reap what they sow, and lose their Lordship and power to us the player character. In the process of their deaths, their achievements mean nothing, unless there are those who remain to remember such. Take Radahn for example. We put him to rest at the festival, yet, he is but a husk of his former self, and was stripped of his legacy many years ago after fighting Malenia. Which to me, comes across as he amounted to being a sacrifice in of himself as consequence in attaining power. But even without a lack of knowledge of this character, the community holds him at high regard as a symbol of a powerful warrior that demands respect with his feats. The same can be said for how devoted his Redmane Soldiers were till the bitter end.

I think Thor wants a fight with Kratos early in the game because he sees everything Kratos was as an equal: Not in power only, but in their roles, their deeds. He fights him because, mentally, he's fighting himself, the abuse he put his sons under, the beatings, being the cause of their death. He conflates Kratos (and Atreus) directly killing them with himself indirectly causing them to die (beating Modi is obvious, but also instilling in them perfect loyalty for Odin, and desire for ghe power of Mjölnir). It's why the more he spends time with Atreus, he develops, but he also hates seeing Kratos and Atreus, because they've been better than him (even if they've gone through similar situations) for long now. Thor has been for his whole life stuck under the thumb of an evil god, Kratos freed himself and is doing his best to do right by his son, his family, and his previous family too. Atreus was suffering under a harsh, judgemental father, who emoted very little to him, but instead of seeking blind approval from him, has started rebelling to do what he thinks is right. Atreus is conquering his independence bit by bit over the game, over correct decisions and mistakes that he has to deal with. Seeing himself "lag behind" must hurt Thor.

Seems to me after the DLC that the Greater Will is an outside power, The Crucible is the primordial power we have at home, The Greater Will doesn’t like that, and Miquella is looking to shake all that up. Heck, the way everything is laid out, The Greater Will doesn’t even seem to be a part of the same dimension or plane of existence, but wants to control it. Boy, From writing is hard to decipher sometimes. Could we please have some Bloodborne cosmic god action to add to this whole punchbowl? Hey. Why stop there. Let’s go full Convergence of Spheres and bring Bloodborne, Dark Souls and Elden Ring into one terrible war. Reminds me of a joke I just made up. I don't care about the stories of these games much. The mechanics are what's sucks me in. That being said, I do watch lore videos though so I care a little I guess. My guess is: the story plays hard to get. It doesn't spell it out. It makes you work for it. You get fragments and want more.

It shows how much details the developers paid attention to since the real Týr in valhalla is the opposite of Odin's tricks. Fake Týr refuses to fight in any type of battle and is not a good diplomat anymore. However real Týr in Valhalla will fight Kratos over and over to help him think through his past and is able to talk to Kratos almost like a real-life therapist to help Kratos accept his past and move forward.

Armstrong is acting as if he's an embodiment of American patriotism trying to ressurect a "true America" but a single sentence proves that he is not. The Rule of Law is one of the foundational principles of American society (as well as other liberal democracies) and is incompatible with a society "Where the law changes to suit the individual, not the other way around."

Actually Marika might have been referring to Melinda in the comment to her demigod children. Melinda did not want to become a lord nor a god, she had wanted nothing. Hence, she became the sacrifice, burning the erdtree

It's absolutely insane that there are people in these comments looking at the main villain of a game, who is on the verge of causing international war, who has had the people working for him experiment on children, all to further his own interests, and go "Actually he has a point!". If someone like Armstrong was in charge of any sufficiently powerful country, he would run said country, maybe even the whole planet into the ground before the year is out!

The glaring problem with the might makes right crowd is that they usually have a very defined, one dimensional and ultimately juvenile understanding of power, and are almost always completely oblivious to their own weaknesses, which usually leads to their downfall. Because self-awareness is inhibiting and “for Liberal pussies” anyways, right? For someone who’s fuelled on uncritical self-belief, there’s nothing more hate inducing than having to consider others - especially those you deem weak on your personal terms.

Ranni and Godwyn are either step-siblings or half-siblings depending on your interpretation, and not cousins.
